heap big doings

If I tried to encapsulate the past week in a LJ post - even with a cut, it'd be a headache to read. So ff y'all, I’m goin old school. If I could sit in front of a 2400 baud modem in the 80's waiting for BBS messages for MINUTES to get A LINE OF TEXT, you can spend an extra 5 seconds for my lil diatribe to load.

That having been said.

I would like to start at the end, and say that my ISP is populated by lying sales people and rotting cocksuckers of tech support folks. I have emerged victorious though, by redirecting the hell out of my site through a dns trick. webs are up - email soon. Fuck them and their blocked port 80.

Internet woes aside, the move went ok. Richelle and I were both on a little bit of an edge due to extended sleeplessness, and stress. I took Friday off from work to pack. I had wanted to go back into the city to meet up with folks in an after work gala event, but instead Richelle and I up packed late, and went to the Bayou with Tim & his g/f. It was a pleasant end to an exhausting day.

I was mostly successful in this venture. I got up @ 6:30 on Saturday to break down bookcases and get to the rest of things. I knew I was partially doomed when tim called early and on time. Richelle went to pick him up, and get coffee and whatnots whilst I continued to plod along packing.

Tim and Richelle returned, and we set to taking down trash, as well as finishing that which had not yet been packed up. I will NEVER ever let Tim near an electrical wire, cord, or game controller again. His idea of breaking down the entertainment system consisted of turning 4 components worth of wires into one large tangled knot the size of a mini-basketball.

Other than that though, he was an indispensable help. He and I managed to get the futon together - we got the paint stuff cleaned - then we just had to wait for the movers.

Who were earlier than dispatch assumed they would be, and, fast working, despite several issues. Apparently, they were not thrilled about moving bags, or computers not in boxes. However, they seemed rather enthralled with Richelle (right up to the line of sexual harassment). I was not thrilled by either of these things, but was downright dismayed when I found out that they had arrived on the scene at our place with a half full moving truck!

Richelle was rather explicit about our quote estimate in terms of what we were moving - the dispatcher was a dick trying to cut costs. The movers barely fit everything in. They did end up leaving quite a few things behind which I didn't find out about right away. I got computers hooked up, and some shit unpacked, and set about tidying up some. We got some things unloaded, ran out to do more laundry, and then collapsed in fitful exhausted slumber.

Sunday was spent cleaning cleaning, repacking, painting, doing an emergency truck run of stuff, painting, and cutting apart a couch for disposal. We threw out a LOT of shit - Goodwill and the Mt. Vernon Sanitation department both made some overtime on our dime.

At least things should be clean - especially with the recent purchase of Space bags!

The rest of the time since Sunday has involved prodigious unpacking, another trip to Bed Bath and Beyond, and lots and lots of laundry. We are mostly, sorta unpacked - I still have boxes of books, the living room/kitchen is still somewhat in disarray, and I need to do a cardboard toss VERY badly, but things are coming together nicely.

I fixed wangch61's pc somewhere in there, then picked it up from his aunt's place when he claimed it was still broke (which, as it turns out, it was not - and is back in working order again today).

I like the place - it should do for the while - hopefully allowing us to shore up some much needed funds.

This weekend will bring some more unpacking, perhaps the beginning of my great library adventure, and, with any luck, a trip to the Rennaissance Faire! =)

We ended up staying in Weschester at least another year (thanks in part to Richelle's job and dog) - we are planning a housewarming in one fo the coming weekends, we need to get unpacked alla way before we can warm the place though - don't worry, you are definitely on the invite list (although it may be harder to get as many folks as you had at your Bollywood joint).

hey man, it was hardly a gordian knot - alls you had to do was unwrap it in sequential order. i notice no props were given for fitting ten gallons worth of cords into a five gallon box, mind you. harrumph!
