a good idea

So I walked home from the train - the end of the day schlep is all uphill, seriously (Yonkers must mean "Big Fucking Mountain" in Algonquin or something), but I feel pretty damn accomplished. It took me about 20 minutes, which means that the mornings will probably take me about 15 (all downhill). I figure I can eventually shave my return trip by at least 5 minutes when my fat ass gets back into shape a little bit - that will give me ~30 minutes of half decent exorcise a day.

When the weather is super shitty, and the world is runing too fast for me, I can still fall back on cabs or some other form of transit. I used to walk a whole hell of a lot though, and don't so much anymore.

I think I'm going to stick with this.

you're walking from greystone?

a lot of my childhood is wrapped up w/ that train station. big fucking mountain (BFM, incidentally) is pretty accurate - we're on a ridge that runs all the way downtown along north broadway.

btw, wtf is a car'a'carn?

I'm walking from Yonkers - it is slightly closer than Greystone (right off Getty Square, near the DMV) - but still a long walk uphill.

Car'a'carn is from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series (a highly suggested read, from one Tolkienian to another - not the same quality - but definitely our generation's closest shot). It is one of the many names for "The Dragon" who is the centerpeice of the books.

He is a character of mixed imagery - both a savior and a ruiner - a breaker and the only hope. He is the reincarnated soul of a man who has been born many times before, and will be born again, unless he falls to the plans of the dark one before he can meet his destiny - which is to sacrifice himself, and thereby defeat the dark one for this revolution of the wheel.

The short version is a character whose name - Caracarn - (which is Aiel for "He Who Comes with Dawn") is a brillaint mix of messianic and satanic aspects - the kind of imagery I am always juggling around - y'know. I decided I really needed to move on from the Balr0g/Murkatos handle as my online m/o - so it just sorta came up at the right time.

I have all the WOT if you still want to read when you get out of Law School =)
