rude awakenings

so around 4am the wind woke me up. it kept me up for about an hour. it was cold in the apartment, which i attributed to a strong draft due to the high wind.

case in fact, however, is that something knocked one of the windows out of the kitchen! I discovered this when i ventured out to see if anything could be done to stop the noise the flapping plastic sheeting i had set up as insulation was making. so, at stupid o-clock am, i was up with a spare pane of glass and some duct tape, trying to keep the outside outside.

for the record, duct tape does not stick well to frozen aluminum.

furthermore, it is very difficut to get duct tape to support a pane of glass while it is badly adhering to frozen aluminum in the midst of head-on 30+mph winds.

yeah
i called her on the way in to work - i dunno what she is going to do, as she cannot make any decisions regarding the welfare of the apartment without talking to her husband first, and he was unavailable at the time.

i assume it will be fixed by the end of the weekend. If it is not, I will call her back, tell her I am going to do it myself, and bill her time+materials.

Re: yeah
is marley ok? and what about what that's going to do to your heating bill. don't forget to bill her for that too. unless heat is included in your rent- then crank the sucker up!

we don't pay for heat
but we don't really have a thermostat either, so it balances out.
marley is in th bedroom, which sequesters him should the window fall out again (the bedroom dor was open last night).

i think i did a pretty good job with the spare window securing things. It did't look like it was going anywhere, plus, I braced it with a box, in case it did loosen up, it isin't going to topple inside.

you rock. see, if it was me, i would've called my landlord at 4am and been like, i don't have a spare windowpane and i'm cold and i don't live with a boy to make it better. and i'm cold. i'll fix sinks, toilets and doors, but i draw the line at things that fell inside.
