Max Ernst and a Meme

Went to see the Ernst exhibition during lunch today when my usual plans fell through. All I can say is wow. It was a fantastic collection of his work. The chronological progression of his medium and imagery is very apparent as you walk through the gallery space, and the short quasi-biographical pieces add to the understanding of that progression. I never realized what an impact frottage, grattage, and decalcomania had on all his painting, even the works that did not favor these methods. You can see the artist's sense of color and texture change as he explores these methods. Totally engrossing. I am going to go again when I am not short on time.

*whine* I wanna be in NY at this moment to see it!

I've seen a few surrealist exhibitions at the Met, they always do a *great* job with them.

Humans are destined to lead themselves and need as little interference from you as possible. You look for the good in everyone and everything. Some say your too forgiving. Even too naive. But one could expect that from someone as loving and nice as you are. World domination may not be your gig, but at least you'll be happy whatever becomes of life.</td>

yeah, leaving comments with open tags are a pisser - so are posting overwide images. particularly transparent ones, like 1 pixel thick.

thank you for mentioning those three techniques. when i read the entry, i had no idea that that's what they were; rather, i thought them perhaps to be varieties of sexual deviance. in my research, i found mention of something called the dream resume. very intriguing. thanks. i'm going to have to try that out.

sorry if you were dissapointed by them simply being mundane artistic processes. i am glad you got something out of it though!
