Apparently, Bill Maher made a comment on his show regarding the failure of the army to achieve its recruitment goals, to the effect of:"We've done picked all the low-lying Lynndie England fruit, and now we need warm bodies"

This statement is indisputably true, if phrased in a less than sensitive manner.

Republican Congressman Spencer Bachus (Ala) had the following
reply:

"I think it borders on treason" ... "In treason, one definition
is to undermine the effort or national security of our country
"

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST FRIGHTENING THINGS I HAVE
HEARD A POLITICIAN SAY IN MY LIFETIME.

The fact that a member of congress made this statement is outrageous.

Those who know me will attest that I am not prone to hyperbole;
If the suggestion that comments such as Mr. Maher's are treasonable
even becomes slightly acceptable in the US - it will be worse than
the red scare ; it will be George V.

PLEASE CROSS POST THIS.

EDIT: While not immidiately available for comment, Phil Spector was visibly upset at this news:

i'm not too worried about it....i think that was just one senator waiving his "i love america this much" cock.

heh
yeah, and bush getting re-elected was one to many redneck saying "fuck gay marriage". the issue is that an elected official is advocating a breed of closed-mindedness which will lead us to goosestepping to the american anthem. the problem is, china is the only one who is going to storm our beachhead.

that's OK for political commentators - but representatives can't wave that particular cock around; "treason" said by a congressman has a certain amount of weight.

nixon lost because of tv
yeah - the problem is people see politicians as entertainers for the most part, so they don't deliniate between a payrolled shock jock and an elected official with an oath of office which foreswears them to defend the tenets of the country they serve.

it is a sad fucking state of affairs.

i def agree that the words of a senator do hold power....but i was def hope there are still enough senators out there that would turn to that guy and say "What the fuck are you talking about!?!.....pull your pants up."

lol - I hope you're right; at the same time nobody can be complacent about stuff like this. We're already on the downward side of the "take whatever freedoms you need to keep me safe" slope.

well, I know the sit-com tendency is to tack a joke onto everything serious and we've all been well trained by the TV

actually, i was going for the outrageous visual pause. people who might otherwise skip the content will stop to see what the hell phil spector is chiming in on, and be trapped by the deviltry of content.

You mean the same group that gathered in a blatant photo-op to badly sing "God Bless America" after the largest tragedy this country has seen in the last 50 years?

Fat chance.

Re: um
the problem is, when open minded people ignore the ignorant, and the ignorant are the majority, very quickly, there is little to no chance of those open minded people surviving in an open forum.

i don't know if it is bruteforcemethd's overall belief (though he references it), but this kind of activity is a hallmark of the new mccarthism i fear this country is sliding towards.

if that happens, i'll become online_stalker's illegal austrailian immigrant houseboy before i spend another year on this rock.
