oh noes
overweight bald guys are standing in front of huge screen projectors again?!

actually, i don't hate apple for the hardware, only the o/s, and the culture it has propitgated for years. the new xbox 360 is going to use a g5 -esque processor, and this just as apple announces they are going to intel.

Re: oh noes
what is this culture you speak of?

Re: oh noes
I wonder the same thing.

The graphic designer geek-squad?
The bubbly cuteness of the machines?

Maybe it's because Macs are white. Is that it? That's it, isn't it?

a little from column a
it is a combo of that "chiq comoputing" group, and the fact that mac o/s seems to breed idiots. i mean, in my many years of tech support, i have heard "oh, i can't do that...why can't this be simple like my apple?"

it is not that what they have to do is hard, just harder than their playschool o/s.

now, osx has def changed the game somewaht, and i have far less angst for that.

however, overall, my opinion is that it protects people from having to think while using a computer. traditionally, this served as a sort of barrier - if youw ere too dumb to figure it out, you didn't pester other people with it.

i feel like mac os 4-9 was basically handing out drivers licenses to myopic retards. snippy, snobby, "my compy is prettier than yours" retards.

the ipod market totally reflects this superficiality. is it a decent product? sure. is it worth what they are charging, or ths shit drm-based software they use to gouge people and keep the record companies happy? not on your life.

don't get me wrong, i hate the MS chanters just as much, if not more.

Re: a little from column a
N. always tells me that my computer knowledge has spoiled him for all the users he's had to deal with in the jobs he's had. I'm a devout Mac user at home, but every job I've had has had me using a PC. I have a basic knowledge of both, and while I love the Mac, and while it was hard to switch from OS9.x to OSX, I definitely have an appreciation for the Windows platform and strive to understand it as it applies to me.

Thus ends the portion of this comment that sounds like a resumé cover letter.

I'm not an Apple snob by a long shot, and it bothers me to see so many people buying their computers just because they look nice.

Re: oh noes
the os? hasnt the osx kernel always run on x86?

mac on intel... with a unix-based os.

sounds like heaven to me, though im sure apple will find a way to brand their mac-intel chipsets, unfortunately :(

You still have to buy the hardware from them though, at least to start.
Jun. 8th, 2005 05:59 pm (UTC)
i just commented that above, curiously enough.

that is a big part of my beef - they wanna make software that will run on anything? fine by me, i don't give a shit. i do not think they will ever give up marrying their o/s to proprietary hardware though.
