i understand paranoia and all but shite...HOW does this in any way resemble a security threat? and who ever heard of 'placing a hoax device' as a criminal charge?

Re: i'm just sayin
right, but how did this become a legal issue? who got the cops involved?

someone called in to report
a lovely byproduct of the "if you see something, say something" campaign. the fact that law enforcement went totally bonzo as a result of these calls is someone else's fault, not the guys who put this up.

that is why they arrested and arraigned the guy who did this already. the mayor thinks it is outrageous that anyone would do something like this, mostly because, yet again, it makes him and his city look less than stellar on the lite bright scale =)

Re: someone called in to report
yeah, that policy blows. me, i see something almost all the time - anytime i have my eyes open, in fact. now, i say something quite often too, but on the whole i think it's inheriantly impossible to say something every time you see something. i mean, how many times can you say 'oh look, a lamp. oh look, a toaster. oh look, a three legged dog'?

it gets tiresome

i don't envy you your phone bill. you should call collect.

Re: ha
do you think i should keep calling them back, or just keep up a running conversation?

it is only a criminal charge if they claimed it was a bomb
the issue here is that it was gurellia marketing. akin to vandalism. the fact that people called in because they were worried is what turned it into a nightmare. so long as there is no evidence that anyone who did the act claimed they were bombs, taht is all it will be.

the issue with gurellia/vandal marketing is the fines you pay are often pennies compared to what an organized marketing campaign costs. nyc recently changed laws to get more money out of folks who want to use these tactics, but, overall, this was a stupid overreaction that led to lots of public embarassment on the parts of politicans and law enforcement.

considering how long the stuff was up, and how widespread (outside of Boston), totally totally stupid.

just goes to show you, boston really needs to sink back into the ocean.
