wtf wednesday

my debit card was erroneously charged this weekend to the tune of 1600$ (instead of 160$). i just got off the phone with the goddamn charge back people, who assured me my money would be refunded in 3-5 business days.

guess i'm eatin ramen until then.

apparently, despite the fact that i have been all over this, other people don't care
the people who charged me 10x what they should have only got the charge back dispute today - they are faxing the forms back to my bank - after bank business hours. if the bank gets everything done tomorrow, i should get my $ friday. if not, it will be sucked away by the weekend.

my cubemate was dying when i asked the CS rep "isin't this why you employ so many people in India with my ATM fees"? i know that makes me sound like a douchebag American, but goddammit it is true!

i've gone all the way around irate to totally dejected.

3-5... What the bloody fuck? How in the holy hells is that even fucking legal to take that long, in this the modern age of high fucking speed internet and online financial transactions, to fix the problem?

i could print the money faster.

however, having worked on the other end of chargeback disputes, 3-5 is nice - i've seen 7-10 standard.

This is exactly why I almost never use my ATM card as a debit card. My bank account cannot afford that kind of mistake. At least if it appears on a charge card, I can make them wait for payment till they fix it.

Speaking of which, I'll bet I owe my fucking credit card company money.

but the card i had on account with them had expired, and the only card i had memorized was my atm card. i've stopped carrying all but my emergency CC to cut back on the impulse-buys, and my bank account could certainly handle 1/10th of the charge - but not what they hit me with!

i was going to say this exact thing. with a credit card, you have a month to get all your shit straightened out and even then, you can refuse payment. with a debit card, the money is gone. this is especially pertinent if your shit ever gets stolen...

also, i'm really sorry this happened. i fucking hate dealing with customer service departments. i was going to say "especially at financial companies" but it blows at airlines, retail (especially online), and pretty much every place else.

good luck getting your money back. maybe threaten to close your account if they don't credit you at least some of the amount. it's not like they don't have $100 billion lying around, of which you need only $1600...fucking a.
